The Top 5 Benefits of Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot essential oil is one of my very favorite oils. Many people are familiar with bergamot and may not even know it. If you've ever had Earl Grey tea, then you've had bergamot!

What Is Bergamot?

Bright and citrusy, this is the perfect uplifting yet relaxing essential oil. Derived from the bergamot citrus fruit, the rind of the fruit is utilized for extracting the bergamot essential oil. One of the most popular uses of bergamot essential oil is the role it plays in black tea preparation. When bergamot essential oil is used in making black tea the outcome is Earl Grey!

The Top 5 Benefits

Bergamot essential oil possesses a deliciously sweet citrusy scent. It has various medicinal and industrial uses such as:

  1. Improving blood circulation
  2. Preventative for infections
  3. Diminishing pain
  4. Relaxant and Sedative
  5. Helpful for digestion

Improving Blood Circulation

Bergamot contains alpha-pinene and limonene which act as antidepressants and are also naturally stimulating. These properties can enhance circulation and create feelings of joy, energy, and happiness. By stimulating circulation, bergamot essential oil can increase hormonal secretions and this can help maintain a healthy metabolic rate.

Preventative for Infections

Another benefit of bergamot oil is that it acts as a natural antibiotic and disinfectant. Bergamot oil can be mixed with body products like soap, to help to ward off skin infections, germs, viruses, and even fungi.

Pain Diminisher

Bergamot oil also works as a pain reliever.  It may help to reduce pain caused by headaches, sprains, and muscle aches. As an added bonus, there are little to no side effects associated with using bergamot oil to reduce pain unlike many over the counter pain relieving products.

Improves Digestion

Bergamot oil stimulates and promotes healthy digestion. The oil may help to reduce constipation, which allows the digestive process to work faster and reduces strain on the intestinal tract.

Relaxing and Sedative

There are active flavonoids in bergamot oil that act as natural relaxants. These flavonoids can calm nerves and lessen tension that is caused by nervousness- such as anxiety and stress. By lowering one’s anxiety and stress, unhealthy blood pressure, insomnia and depression are all also reduced as well.

This is one of the main benefits of bergamot essential oil in our Mermaid Magic Ocean Crystals bath salts, they are the perfect way to wind down in a bath before bedtime to have a restful night of sleep!

So there you have it, now you can probably see why bergamot essential oil is one of my absolute favorites! What's your favorite essential oil?
